Amigurumi Basics
Published May 2020
Mastering colour changes is essential for tackling advanced amigurumi projects that feature multiple colours in one piece. The great news? It’s really straightforward! If you’re comfortable with the basic single crochet stitch, you’re already halfway there to seamlessly changing colours.
In this step-by-step tutorial, I will show you how to make a simple, straightforward colour change in amigurumi.
How to Change Colours in the Round: Photo Tutorial
Step 1: The first step of the colour change takes place when making the final stitch of the current colour. Work the last single crochet as usual, but stop after the first yarn over and pull through, leaving two loops on your hook.
Step 2: Take the new color and hold it behind your work, maintaining tension on both the old and new colours.
Step 3: Yarn over with the new colour.
Step 4: Pull through to complete the single crochet. Your colour change is now complete!
Step 5: You can now continue, as per the pattern, with the new colour.
